However, being the\nleader or CEO requires you to take the lead and to set the long-term vision and\nstrategy for the company. All of this while still keeping an eye on the\ncompetitive marketplace and future-proofing the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a question of balance. But it\u2019s important that it\ndoesn\u2019t swing too far in the direction of being too hands-on. In fact, a survey\nof over 1,000 CEOs across six countries identified that high-level leaders\n(rather than hands-on) are the most effective. When employees thrive in the five elements\nof wellbeing, their performance improves, time off decreases, and customer\nsatisfaction increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The five elements are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Purpose<\/strong>: Finding\nmeaning and enjoyment in your daily life and working towards goals.<\/li><li><strong>Social:<\/strong> Developing\nsupportive relationships and feeling loved.<\/li><li><strong>Finan<\/strong>cial: Finding\nan economic balance to create security and minimise stress.<\/li><li><strong>Community:<\/strong> Being proud\nof where you live and feeling safe there.<\/li><li><strong>Physical:<\/strong> Having the\nenergy and good health to achieve and function well.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With the divide between professional and personal life\ngrowing ever dimmer, it\u2019s more important than ever that businesses take a holistic\napproach and put in place a programme for employee wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leaders play a key role in both implementing these\nprogrammes and ensuring their success by creating a positive culture in which\nemployee happiness and health is valued, and people are encouraged to take\nadvantage of the wellbeing offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider what your business can offer employees to help them\nthrive in the five elements of wellbeing, invite them to take part, and of\ncourse model good practice by taking part yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Give responsibility for important work to other people<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees perform best when given responsibility over their\nwork and held accountable for the results \u2013 while being supported through\ntraining, development, and resourcing. As a leader, you set the agenda for job\nroles and for delegating the workload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure that employees are clear on what their\nresponsibilities are and how their work will be measured. There also needs to\nbe purpose behind their role (one of the five elements of wellbeing). For work\nto be purposeful, it needs to have meaning within the business, and the\nemployee needs to understand that meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When engagement is high (with meaningful work, training,\ndevelopment, and resources in place) the employee will be committed and\nmotivated to do their best work. This is good for the person and for the\nbusiness. Time and again, companies with strong employee commitment have\ngreater revenue growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Practice humility and show your humanity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Focusing on the wellbeing of your employees and putting\nwhat\u2019s good for the business before your own needs will inspire the loyalty and\ncommitment of your employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People want to work for someone they trust, and this trust\nis earned through your daily commitment to the business and the people in it.\nModel the behaviours you wish to see and lead your company\u2019s culture by\nexample.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay positive.
