Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Women's Affairs, Community and Small Enterprises of Zimbabwe, confirmed her eagerness to participate in the second edition of the 2023 Global Media Congress (GMC), which will be held from November 14 to 16, 2023 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). She pointed to the importance of exchanging the qualitative information that this session will cover and transferring the lessons learned to Zimbabwe.
She added in statements to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the importance of the GMC lies in shaping the digital future and formulating digital skills and employing them in the media sector, in addition to contributing to delivering
a clear message about future interests and trends.
She said that the media plays a vital role in promoting community development. It does this by highlighting all categories and issues, clarifying digital skills for business management, and involving more women in the digital sector. She also emphasised the importance of the media in keeping pace with the rapid technological transformation and the expected transition of most businesses to the digital economy.
The minister emphasised the important role that women play in Zimbabwe in most sectors, such as mining and handicrafts. She stressed the need to enable women to learn digital skills, and highlighted the role of the media in raising awareness of the importance of this trend and promoting digital literacy and innovation.
Minister Mutsvangwa said that the GMC is of great importance to Zimbabweans, as it will benefit everyone, especially women. She noted that women from Zimbabwe participated in the first edition of the event, and that she saw the benefits of the congress firsthand when she was Minister of Information, Propaganda and Broadcasting.
The second edition of the congress is organised by ADNEC in partnership with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), with the participation of a selection of media industry leaders, experts, global influencers, as well as academics, youth and university students.
The congress will discuss, over three days, many of the main themes that focus on environmental and sustainable media, media education, challenges and opportunities, innovation, as well as sports media and the role of new technologies and artificial intelligence.
