The Nakheel for the Al Furjan Hills project received the license to construct using 3D printing in December 2023 following the issuance of Decree No.24 by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, back in 2021, which regulates the use of 3D printing in the construction field.
"Through the implementation of this Decree, our objective is to drive economic growth, promote environmental sustainability and enhance urban development in Dubai by embracing innovative solutions,” said Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation.
Bin Sulayem also added that the project was achieved by the close collaboration of Tarkhees and several key parties and that it serves as an important milestone in promoting cutting-edge technology, innovation, and an economy centered around knowledge, serving the objectives of the D33 initiative.

Additionally, Bin Sulayem stated that Trakhees has committed itself to granting licenses and guaranteeing regulatory compliance in regions under PCFC's supervision in order to assist the emirate's ambitious objective of having 25 percent of its structures erected utilizing 3D printing technology by 2030.
The chairman also touched on the technology’s benefits compared to standard methods, saying “3D printing technology stands as one of the latest eco-friendly construction methods. Unlike traditional methods that involve pouring concrete layers, 3D printing relies on a robotic arm to directly print layers of cement-based material onto a prepared surface.”
Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of the Department of Planning and Development at Trakhees, PCFC, "This opens new horizons for architectural engineering in Dubai and enhances the emirate’s economy.”
