Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Presents The Works Of Contemporary Artists Howardena Pindell And Khalil Rabah

The latest Guggenheim Abu Dhabi video series, ‘Spotlight’,showcases the collection work Tarot: Hanged Man by Howardena Pindell as well as Khalil Rabah’s seminal work The Palestinian Museum of Natural History and Humankind/Newsletter Summer 2011.

Offering viewers an up-close and personal look of Pindell’swork, Tarot: Hanged Man, currently on loan at the Fruitmarket in Edinburgh, Scotland, the video will deliver an exclusive overview and synopsis from experts on the work, including the African American contemporary artist Howardena Pindellherself. The video explores the work through several voices and distinct perspectives, giving viewers a deep dive into understanding the depth and intricacy of the piece. The speakers, featuring Fiona Bradley, Director at Fruitmarket, and Naomi Beckwith, Deputy Director and Jennifer and David Stockman Chief Curator at Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, also shed light on Pindell’s dedication and deep commitment to advocacy, community building and her life-long role as an educator.

With select works currently on view at the Sharjah Art Foundation, Rabah’sinterminable project, The Palestinian Museum of Natural History and Humankind, is one that began back in 2003 and continues to this day. The video provides viewers with an enriched understanding into Rabah’s chimerical national museum and its many layers, one of which is an addendum in the form of Newsletter Summer 2011, which explores ways of spatialising and humanising the Museum and the ideas it represents. From the artist Khalil Rabah himself, the video also includes insight from Sharjah Art Foundation Vice President SheikhaNawarAl Qassimi, as well as Reem Fadda, Director,Cultural Foundation and adviser at Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, who both offer viewers a deeper introspective into Rabah’s phantom museum.
